Can’t Work Anymore? How Can You Get Financial Help?

You’re just looking for a little reason to hope. Health problems have interfered with your life and forced you to stop working. Now you worry how you’ll pay your bills and survive.

Is there any place you can turn to for help?

Social Security Disability benefits were created for people in this exact situation. Benefits provide:

    • Monthly checks to help you afford your essential needs
    • Access to healthcare through Medicare or Medicaid so you can get the medical treatment you need
    • More peace and stability in one of the hardest times of your life

But it can be complicated and difficult to win benefits. In a recent 10-year period, two-thirds of people who tried were denied their disability claims.

The disability lawyers at Troutman & Troutman have helped over 10,000 people get through this.

Troutman is a family law firm devoted to Oklahoma families. Our attorneys have 150 years of combined experience with Social Security Disability cases.

We’re here for people in Tulsa, Owasso, Bartlesville, Tahlequah, Muskogee, and all of Oklahoma.

Social Security Disability Benefits: 2 Types

When you prove you can’t work because of major health problems, you could receive benefits from either of two programs run by Social Security: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    • SSDI is for people with substantial, recent work backgrounds and records of paying into Social Security through payroll taxes.
    • SSI is for people without work histories that would qualify them for SSDI and also limited savings or other financial resources.

SSDI calculates your monthly checks based on your earnings history. The amount is often higher than SSI, which pays standard amounts for everyone.

With SSDI, you can get your ongoing health care through Medicare before the usual retirement age, after a waiting period. SSI immediately gets you on Medicaid (SoonerCare in Oklahoma).

You’ll often get either SSDI or SSI, not both. But in certain circumstances—like when the amount of your SSDI payments is below a certain level, or to cover a gap between when your job ended and when you qualified for SSDI—you could receive both.

Nothing but good things to say here. From start to finish . . . everyone I ever spoke with there was wonderful. . . .They are true rock stars . . . and I was truly humbled by the level of care I received. And though I hope I never need the same representation again, should the need arise later in life, I won’t even consider looking elsewhere.”
