Is It Becoming Harder to Get Disability Benefits?

The amount of people applying for Social Security disability benefits is going down. This is unexpected news for experts, advocates and political leaders. And though some are celebrating this change in enrollment, others are asking why. Is SSDI Enrollment Going Down? According to The New York Times, new enrollments for Social Security disability benefits have gone down. In 2001, enrollments were at an all-time high of 2.02 million, but those numbers have fallen dramatically. Last year, there were under 1.5 million enrollments, and the downward trend seems to be continuing. The total number of recipients for the program is also going down. Members of the baby boomer generation are reaching retirement age in record numbers. This has caused the number of disability recipients to go down as these people are moved to retirement benefits.
