What Does Social Security Disability Look for in a Claim?

Tulsa SSDI Lawyer Explains Disability Qualifications

The Social Security Administration has strict requirements for who qualifies for Social Security disability benefits, but that does not mean you should not apply. As Social Security looks at all aspects of an applicant’s claim, it is possible that you may end up receiving disability benefits for something you may not have considered. In this video, Tulsa SSDI attorney Steve Troutman explains how thorough the SSA is when considering disability applicants and what they are looking for. Our law firm offers free consultations for disability applicants, as well as those who have already applied and been denied.

When Social Security evaluates a claim, a lot of people seem to think that they apply for a certain type of illness or injury. People have asked me for example, “Should I apply for disability based on my heart or based on my anxiety or based on this.” They’re supposed to consider everything. Mental, physical issues – all of them. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a huge difference. You might have a person with a heart problem or a knee problem that ultimately their disability might turn on a problem that they’ve got with their hands because their knees might or their heart might keep them from standing for long periods of time, but the use of their hands might keep them from doing certain things at a desk job. So Social Security is supposed to consider everything – mental, physical, the whole nine yards.
