The process from the application to the time we get in front of a judge is running from 15 – 18 months. From the initial application through the levels of appeal, the initial, the reconsideration, and the hearing levels of appeal. The hearing themselves would last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half for a typical hearing, there are 5 people in a Social Security Disability hearing: it’ll be myself or whatever attorney you’re with; the claimant, which would be you; it would be the judge; the court reporter; then a vocational expert. The purpose of the hearing is for the judge to get to know you, to understand really what’s going on with you. Think about the fact the judge has already seen the medical records he’s already reviewed them he needs to see a person he needs to put a face to those medical records and that’s our job, our job is to tell your story.
