KTUL-TV recently featured a story that concerns people who are responsible for taking care of a disabled family member. Reportedly, Oklahoma lawmakers are considering shutting down adult daycare facilities statewide.
Why Are Adult Day Care Centers in Oklahoma Shutting Down?
Per the KTUL-TV report, the reason the adult daycare facilities could be closing is because of Oklahoma’s state budgeting crisis. These facilities are often the only affordable option for parents who care for adult sons and daughters with disabilities to have their adult children properly cared for while they are at work. Therefore, if Oklahoma lawmakers pass a budget that cuts funding to adult daycare centers, it could be disastrous for families statewide.
A mother of a 21-year-old man with cerebral palsy who KTUL-TV spoke with said that she has been contacting lawmakers and begging them to keep the facilities open. However, as of this writing, the lawmakers she called either did not answer her call or have yet to return her call.
