Have You Ever Heard Of An Invisible Disability?

On Facebook and Twitter we have shared the stories, pictures and videos of people with invisible disabilities, but some people still might be confused about what these are. So as your Tulsa, Oklahoma disability attorneys, we thought we would clear some things up and help you understand why it might not be easy to tell when another person has a disability.

Have You Ever Heard Of An Invisible Disability?

Have you ever thought about what the term “disability” means to you? When most people think about it, they imagine wheelchairs and assistive devices, but not all disabilities are so obvious. Conditions like bipolar disorder, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis can cause symptoms that make doing normal daily activities or holding a job harder or even impossible, but the signs of their symptoms are often not obvious. People with these conditions often refer to these disorders as “invisible disabilities.”

Some people with invisible disabilities can function pretty well a lot of the time, but when their symptoms kick in, it can be quite a struggle. This means that they don’t often use visible assistive devices like walkers or canes, which can give the uninformed the impression that these people are normally abled. This can cause people to taunt, deride, and urge people to do more than they are able to. This can hurt people with disabilities and give them the impression of weakness and powerlessness, but such impressions couldn’t be further from the truth.

People with invisible disabilities are just a strong as any other person on the street, and they face big challenges daily just to live their lives the way they want. More information about invisible disabilities can be found at the Invisible Disabilities Association. I didn't think there was a caring professional considerate attorney firm on the planet, but Troutman & Troutman proved me wrong. From the receptionist to the legal assistance to the attorney and more they were exceptional people.

They did a fantastic job getting everything gathered up and getting the trial done as quickly as possible. Anytime I had a question they were patient and help me understand what was going on. Especially Christy and Charlie were great.

Steve Troutman was able to get my short-term and long-term disability for me. Then Erin another lawyer for their firm got my Social security disability for me. Great people.

Mr. Troutman walked me through the entire process. Heather was available each time I called, answered all my crazy questions, and helped me fill out forms along the way. I was never treated like I was wasting time.
