Each September, we like to remind readers that it is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, in hopes that people are screened early to avoid complications with the disease.
Sadly, according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, each year, more than 29,000 men die of the disease, as it is the second leading cause of cancer death of U.S.
This is unacceptable, as the five-year survival rate is almost 100 percent if a victim is diagnosed and treated early.
If you are a male over 30, you should go to your doctor regularly for screenings, as one in seven men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. If you have an adult male in your family, talk to him about visiting the doctor for routine exams.
Throughout the month, you will see many Americans who have been affected by prostate cancer wearing blue to raise awareness.
