Do you suffer from ovarian cancer?
September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, led by the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Sadly, each year, more than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with this type of cancer and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease.
According to the NOCC, awareness is important—the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent for victims who are diagnosed with the disease in its early stages, who are treated. Unfortunately, there is no early detection test for ovarian cancer, so women should be proactive when looking for symptoms.
According to WebMD, these symptoms include:
- Frequent bloating
- Pain in the belly or pelvis
- Trouble eating, or feeling full quickly
- An urgent need to urinate or urinating more often than usual
If these symptoms appear rapidly and last for more than two weeks, women should contact their doctors. In addition to these warning signs, often, victims say they had issues with their menstrual process prior to a diagnosis.
If you have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, multiple treatment options may help you handle or eradicate the disease, including chemotherapy and surgery.
