Veterans And SSDI: What Do I Need To Know?

With Veterans Day taking place today, our Tulsa disability attorneys would like to thank all those who have served in our armed forces.

As we have mentioned in previous blogs, many veterans are entitled to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). In fact, about 60,000 veterans receive benefits from SSDI, military retirement pay, and disability benefits from the Veteran Affairs.

Through the Social Security Administration, some Wounded Warriors receive expedited processing for disability claims. If you are a veteran, prior to applying for benefits, you should be aware of a few things. Although the SSA allows some veterans to collect SSDI, the standards for disability are different from those used by the Veterans Administration.

The VA uses a percentage model, where veterans can be considered 60, 70, or even 80 percent disabled in order to obtain benefits. Unlike the VA, the SSA does not use percentage ratings, and even a 100 percent rating with the VA does not always qualify a veteran for SSDI benefits.

While the SSA process is strict, it should not stop you from attempting to collect benefits if your disabilities do not allow you to work.

Social Security Disability Benefits for Veterans

We have a page dedicated to veterans and SSDI if you have questions about the process. Have a wonderful Veterans Day and thank you for your service to our great country!

They did a fantastic job getting everything gathered up and getting the trial done as quickly as possible. Anytime I had a question they were patient and help me understand what was going on. Especially Christy and Charlie were great.

Steve Troutman was able to get my short-term and long-term disability for me. Then Erin another lawyer for their firm got my Social security disability for me. Great people.

Mr. Troutman walked me through the entire process. Heather was available each time I called, answered all my crazy questions, and helped me fill out forms along the way. I was never treated like I was wasting time.
