Have you noticed a shift in hours at your local Social Security field office?
On March 16, Social Security offices extended openings an additional hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Field offices that were open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. are now open until 4 p.m. Offices will continue to remain closed to the public at noon on Wednesday. In a release, the Social Security Administration (SSA) said that this is done to allow employees to have time to complete their current duties.
“This expansion of office hours reaffirms our commitment to providing the people we serve the option of top-notch, face-to-face assistance in field offices even as we work to expand online services for those who prefer that flexibility,” said Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “The public expects and deserves world-class customer service and thanks to approved funding, I am pleased we will continue our tradition of exceptional service.”
Prior to this year, due to budget cuts and growing backlogs, many SSA employees complained that there was not enough time to work on items like benefit backlogs. It is our hope that this will help with processing times. The SSA operates more than 1,250 field offices across the country.
In Tulsa, the SSA is located at 4750 S Garnett Road.
