Have you ever wondered how your Social Security Disability Insurance benefits are scheduled to be paid?
First, you should know that benefits are generally paid a month after they are due, meaning the benefits you receive in July are the ones that were due in June, etc. This helps many families plan ahead of time, if there are events or changes that are expected, which could increase or decrease benefit amounts.
Additionally, you should be aware that the day of the month that you receive payments actually depends on your birthday or the birthday of the person that you are receiving benefits for. According to the Social Security Administration, payments are currently distributed in this fashion:
- If your birthday falls from the 1st through the 10th of the month, your payment day is the second Wednesday of each month
- If your birthday falls from the 11th through the 20th of the month, your payment day is the third Wednesday of each month.
- If your birthday falls from the 20th of the month until the end the month, your payment day is the fourth Wednesday of each month
The only real exception to these dates is if you started receiving benefits before 1997, as these beneficiaries typically receive payments on the third day of each month. Additionally, if your payment date falls on a federal holiday, you should know that in most cases, your benefits are scheduled to be paid the day before.

If you are having issues with payments or deposits, you should contact your local SSA field office directly.
