Has Disability Hiring Increased?

According to DisabilityScoop, the employment rate for Americans with disabilities remained stagnant during the fall months.

The news outlet reported that the jobless rate for those with disabilities was at 10.5 percent in October, up slightly from 10.4 percent during September. This is bizarre because the economy added 271,000 jobs nationally during October, according to Labor Department reports. During this period, the unemployment rate for the general population was at about 5 percent.

The numbers indicate the jobless rate for those with disabilities over the age of 16 who do not live in institutions. Some experts have indicated that they expect unemployment numbers to drop across the board over the winter, as seasonal jobs become available around the holidays.

Should I Look into Social Security If I Cannot Work Due to Disabilities?

It is unfortunate that so many people with disabilities are unable to find work in our country. Keep in mind, if your disabilities are serious enough that they keep you from obtaining a job, you may want to look into applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security income (SSI).

To collect SSDI, you must show that your disabilities are severe. If you have been unable to obtain work for a long period due to your condition, you may be able to prove this by working with an attorney.

In the video above, Tulsa SSDI attorney Steve Troutman discusses substantial gainful activity and eligibility requirements. If you have further questions about the SSDI process, you can visit our Social Security FAQ page.

Steve Troutman was able to get my short-term and long-term disability for me. Then Erin another lawyer for their firm got my Social security disability for me. Great people.
