Can You Collect Social Security Disability If You Have Prostate Cancer?

Did you know that prostate cancer was added this year to the list of medical conditions allowed under the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Compassionate Allowances (CAL) program?

The CAL program allows for the expedited process of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefit decisions. Prostate cancer was one of the 25 different conditions added to the program earlier this year.

Sadly, an estimated 200,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Because of this, organizations like the Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) have been founded in attempt to raise awareness each September, during national Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month, you may see people with light blue ribbons on to represent prostate cancer awareness. In 2011, more than 27,000 men died in America due to prostate cancer, which can be eliminated through early screenings and detection. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among American men.

How Do I Collect SSDI If I Have Prostate Cancer?

Because prostate cancer is on the CAL list, you may be able to collect SSDI if your illness makes it impossible to work. However, it may be in your best interest to work with our SSDI attorney who can gauge your case during a free evaluation of your case.

Remember, our attorneys only collect contingency fees based on whether or not you win your case. If we do not collect a favorable outcome for you, we will not collect fees. If you are interested in applying for SSDI or have any further questions about the process, contact us today.
