Oklahoma may have some work to do when it comes to being a destination for people with disabilities.
According to the website Wallethub.com, the state only had two cities rank among the top 150 in the country when it comes to affordability, jobs, schools, and attractions for the disabled.
The website placed Oklahoma City 38th in the country in its rankings of the best cities for a person with disabilities to live in, while Tulsa ranked 129th. The rankings were based on three factors—economic environment, quality of life, and health care—to determine cities with the “most suitable” living situations for individuals with disabilities. Among the criteria was the rate of employed people with disabilities to park accessibility.
The top three cities included Overland Park, Kansas, and Peoria, and Scottsdale, Arizona.
According to the website Wallethub.com, Oklahoma City ranked third for its economic environment, 67th for its quality of life, and 139th for health care accessibility. Tulsa ranked 42nd, 88th, and 143rd for the respective categories.
How Can I Obtain Social Security Benefits?
For information about applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you can visit our Social Security FAQ page. We would like to see Oklahoma improve its rankings for the quality of life of its disabled residents. This includes people who cannot work, who may be eligible for SSDI.
Keep in mind, earlier this year, the special interest organization United Cerebral Palsy ranked Oklahoma the 48th worst state for intellectual and developmental disability care. These numbers need to improve.
