Owasso is a city located in both Rogers and Tulsa counties, in Oklahoma. The city is a northern suburb of Tulsa, with a population of more than 28,000 as of the 2010 U.S. Census.
The city was originally settled in 1881 and is perhaps best known for its role in several scenes of the film The Outsiders. Owasso was officially charted on September 28, 1972 after decades of being considered a “town”.
Owasso is located in the portion of Oklahoma known as “Green Country” for its green vegetation, hills and lakes. The city has a total land area of 10.1 square miles. It should be noted that Owasso is located in Tornado Alley and has a humid subtropical climate, which can lead to severe storms.
Newspapers in Owasso include the Owasso Reporter and Owasso Progress. One major roadway traveled in Owasso is SH-135, which also serves as the city’s Main Street.
The city’s top employers include the Nordam Group, Whirlpool and MCI WorldCom.
