Bixby is a city located in both Tulsa and Wagoner counties in Oklahoma. Bixby has an estimated population of more than 21,000 and is nicknamed “The Garden Spot of Oklahoma” for its agrarian heritage.
The city is one of the fastest growing areas in Oklahoma and remains popular for sod-growing and producing fresh vegetables. CNN ranked Bixby number 67 on its list of the 100 Best Places to Live in 2009.
Produce coming from Bixby is shipped all over the country, including cantaloupes, potatoes, radishes, squash, turnips, spinach and sweet corn. The city has a total area of 25.1 square miles and sits near the Arkansas River.
City parks, including the Washington Irving Memorial Park and Arboretum, host the popular “Bixby BBQ & Music Festival” each May and the Bixby “Deutschesfest” in September.
The city is served by the Bixby School District, which runs six schools: Bixby High School, Bixby Middle School, Brassfield 5th and 6th Grade Center, North Intermediate, Central Elementary and Bixby North Elementary.
Bixby has one newspaper, the Bixby Bulletin, which runs each Thursday.
