According to DisablityScoop.com¸the job market for disabled Americans worsened slightly in May from the previous month.
The website reported that the jobless rate for those with disabilities rose to 12.7 percent in May, up from 12.5 percent in April. Additionally, the Labor Department indicated that more people within the general population were employed in May than the previous month.
The Labor Department noted that America added 217,000 jobs in May, while the unemployment rate for the general population remained steady at 6.3 percent. The data for people with disabilities covers those over the age of 16 who do not live in institutions. The employment reports are released every month.
The news is discouraging for those with disabilities, as the unemployment rate decreased 2 percent from 14.5 percent in March to 12.5 percent in April, leading many to speculate that more hiring was taking place among those with disabilities.
Do I Qualify For Social Security Disability Benefits?
Keep in mind, a person who is unable to work because of his or her physical condition may want to look into applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.
It is well documented that although some people may want to work, they simple cannot find employment, because they cannot perform the tasks or functions associated with the jobs they are applying to.
If you think that you may be eligible for disability benefits, you should contact a Tulsa Social Security disability attorney, who can help you through the application process. Contact our office at (918) 265-1404.
