According to DisabilityScoop.com, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities has gone up slightly, as more people are seeking work.
The website, using the information provided by the U.S. Department of Labor, said that the unemployment rate for people with disabilities rose to 14.5 percent in March, up from 14.3 percent the month prior.
However, even with the rate increase, the Labor Department said that the number of people who were disabled and working increased because the number of people who were actively job hunting in March resulted in a higher number being included in the rate.
Overall, for March, the unemployment rate in the general population remained unchanged at 6.7 percent.
For those suffering from disabilities leaving them unable to work, there is an option in Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). It should be noted though that in order to qualify for benefits, a person must prove that his or her impairments keep him or her from doing any type of work that exists in significant numbers because of his or her medical condition.
Applicants also have to show that their disabilities have lasted for longer than a year or could result in death.
If you suffer from a debilitating disability that leaves you unable to work, we suggest contacting a Tulsa Social Security Disability attorney to see if you are eligible for SSDI benefits. We offer free evaluations of your case, and you may reach us by phone at (918) 265-1404.
